Empathy! As Daniel Pink says in his book, A Whole New Mind, “Empathy is the ability to imagine yourself in someone else’s position and to intuit what that person is feeling.” Empathy is more than just feeling for someone, it is the ability to talk to someone and understand their situation. Empathy has to do with the whole body, meaning what they say, and telling the truth. Early in the 1900’s hospitals and doctors offices were very drab, white washed, and sterile, and they were places that many people didn’t like to be in. Today the average medical centers are cheerful, but sometimes painful. Doctors are rushing everywhere, with their overwhelming number of patients calling on him/her for advice, and nurses are giving shots like there was no tomorrow. I am not saying that this is the normal doctors office, but sometimes it seems like this is new normal for the average patient who comes in for his yearly checkup. Throughout all this confusion, there are medical centers that handle their patients with care, and diagnose problems faster and easier with a new form of handling patients. Empathy. There have been doctors that have used Empathy to diagnose problems. Their strategy is to listen to the patient for what they think is wrong, then do tests, instead of the doctors telling them what they have. This is a useful tool, especially when it could mean the difference between life and death. Portfolio- “Test Yourself” Test One: measuring my EQ to determine whether I have a female brain or a male brain. Results: My Empathy quotient was 40 which was in the average. This tells me that I need to work on my empathy, which I believe. Sometimes I tend to not be as empathetic, as I probably should be. I hope that I can learn to be more empathetic, so that way I can feel with people, whether they're happy or sad. Test Two: Determining my SQ Results: My Systemizing Quotient was 22 which was in the average.
I am in the average of all the systemizers, which I am rather surprised at, because I organize everything into a system.
Spot the fake smile quiz
Results: I recieved 9 out of twenty correct. This quiz especially was rather challenging. I was sure of myself on what I thought was a smile, but I soon discovered that it was harder to tell the difference between a fake smile and a real smile.
