Weekly reflections comparing my everyday life to the six senses, and the brain quizzes.

Week One- how does AWNM relate to Social Studies?

Social Studies better known as history, involves alot of thinking, using the six senses. Meaning is used in Social Studies, especially when after an era, one takes into context the lessons that history has made so we do not make those mistakes again. Take Hitler. He killed millions of people in the concentration camps in Europe, which the world would come to call an atrocity. What lesson did we learn from him? Well I learned that human beings should not be slaughtered no matter what race or religion they believe in. There's also the dropping of the atomic bomb, which killed thousands, and the power of that bomb was not known until it was dropped. I hope that the world learned never to use the bomb again, as it's results were devastating. I would hope that from every era, and mistakes made, humans learn from the mistakes that have been made, so that way they are not made again. That way history is not repeated, and the meaning of history is important for the success of our future. If something catastrophic like those events ever happened again, then I would try to teach people the results of the last event, and what people would be doing if they did this again.

Week Two- How does AWNM relate to Science?

In Science you study the environment, the weather, the solar system, and several other units. To study these units story is used.
Story is the plot of a drama or work of art. In science the scientific method could be considered a story. A story starts out with an introduction, which in the scientific method is the question that is trying to be solved. Then comes the problem, which is the hypothesis. After that comes the quest to find the answers, which is when you do the experiment and find the data. The climax is when you find the answers, then the conclusion is the compilations of the results.
Story isn't just used in the scientific method. Story could also be used when trying to remember the order of the planets or the layers of the atmosphere. A phneumonic device is used such as (to remeber the planets) My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nasty Pickles. A story is easier to recall than the actual order, so a story or a phneumonic device is used to remember that order.
I have used Story many times for both of the reasons listed above. Through Story, everything flows, and is very understandable. I will continue to use Story throughout my life to help these and other things flow together.

Week Three- How does AWNM relate to Math?

I have used Symphony in math many times to help myself learn the material, and put together all that I have learned. When I first learned how to count, little did I know that this would be the basis of my learning how to add and subtract. Learning how to add and subtract, helped me to easily learn how to multiply and divide. Because of my skills of knowing how to add and subtract, helped me to put together these two skills to figure how to multiply and divide. And once I learned how to multiply and divide, I was able to combine those skills to learn how to do higher level math, such as geometry and algebra. Math skills are learned when one skill is combined with another skill, or in other words when skills are sythesized. I will continue to use Symphony throughout my Mathelogical career, as I learn more and more about math.

Week Four- How does AWNM relate to English?

Empathy isn't just used in the real world, it is also used in English. Romeo and Juliet, The Giver, The Odyssey, and Macbeth are just a few of the books read throughout the years in English. When one reads these books they read the view point from the main character, and they see what he or she is going through to achieve his or her goal. While trying to commit to this goal the character struggles to make it, and undergoes many challenges. The reader is drawn in to feel sympathetic for that person when they go through a rough time, and is proud of the character when they reach their final destination. What the reader feels is empathy towards the main character, or when the reader understands what the main character goes through. Take The Odyssey for example. Odysseus takes twenty years to return home after the seven year Trojan war, because he is delayed by the Gods. He struggles to go home, and when he finally does, the reader is happy for Odysseus when he achieves his goal at last. I have felt for the characters too in many books before. I am joyful with them when they triumph, and disappointed too when they struggle. This is the object for the author to have the reader to feel for the character.

Week Five- How does AWNM relate to the Arts?

The Arts are composed of liberal arts and performing arts. Just as in Play, the arts are a way to express yourself, and your emotions. Through playing whether it be through video games or yoga or some sort of activity, the player escapes from the everyday life, and joins the world of playing. This is the same for the arts. When playing an instrument or designing a piece, one is suddenly involved in the world of the creativity of that artist's view of reality. Through music and art the artist can become a different person, when they express themselves through that medium. This is just like Play. When one plays, they play something of their own choosing, which shows what sort of person they are, through the games they play and the way they express themselves through the games. I have used Play many times before through the arts, through my view of reality and my expressions. Through the arts I can escape from reality, by playing in the orchestra, because I can concentrate on what I am playing instead of what is going on around me. I can also tell what the composer felt when he was writing a piece. The Composer was trying to get across emotion which can be felt when I Play the piece. I can also show my emotions when I design a piece, so there is purpose behind my creativity. Just like there is a purpose in Play.

Week Six- How does AWNM relate to a World Language?

There are two forms of languages, verbal or written. The purpose of a world language is to communicate. The purpose of design is to create, or construct according to plan. In a language the purpose is to construct meaning, to help communicate with one another, and to set apart one culture from another, one language from another. Where as Design is to construct for utility, function, and purpose. Behind both Design and World Language, there is purposeful meaning. Just like certain civilizations, their structures define who they are, along with their language. There are some languages who's roots are more structurally complex than others. Take Japanese for expample. One symbol represents a feeling instead of just a word. Design can be complex too. Think about the most complex buildings in the past. The first ones that come to mind are the Inca pyramids, and the Aztec cities. Their buildings were creatively designed, and have spiritual meaning too.
In my opinion I believe that it is important to have a knowledge of another world language. By being able to speak, read, and write another current world language, one would be able to communicate with a larger portion of the world, thus opening up new horizons to learning. I would like to learn a new language so I too can communicate with many others.
